How to Choose the Right Size

Choosing the right size for your Falketind Alpha120 Zip Hood is essential for ensuring a comfortable and effective fit. Here are some tips to help you select the right size:

  • Take accurate measurements: Use a tape measure to take accurate measurements of your chest, waist, and hips. This will help you determine the right size for you.

  • Consult the sizing chart: Refer to the Norrøna sizing chart to determine which size is right for you based on your measurements.

  • Consider your layering: If you plan to wear the Falketind Alpha120 Zip Hood as a mid-layer under a shell jacket, you may want to consider sizing up to allow for extra layering.

How to Care for Your Falketind Alpha120 Zip Hood

Proper care and maintenance of your Falketind Alpha120 Zip Hood will ensure that it lasts for years to come. Here are some tips for caring for your jacket:

  • Follow the care instructions: Be sure to read and follow the care instructions on the label of the jacket. This may include instructions for washing, drying, and storing the jacket.

  • Wash it as needed: Wash the jacket as needed, but avoid washing it too frequently as this can cause wear and tear on the material.

  • Use a gentle detergent: When washing the jacket, use a gentle detergent that is specifically designed for outdoor gear. Avoid using fabric softeners as they can damage the water-resistant coating on the jacket.

  • Hang dry: Hang the jacket to dry rather than using a dryer, as high heat can damage the insulation and fabric of the jacket.

  • Store properly: Store the jacket in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid storing it in direct sunlight or damp conditions, as this can cause damage to the material.

Activity Level: Consider the activities you'll be doing while wearing your Injinji socks. There are different styles of Injinji socks designed for different activities, such as running, hiking, and yoga.

Material: Injinji socks are made from a range of materials, including wool, synthetic blends, and moisture-wicking fabrics. Choose the material that best suits your needs and preferences.

Color and Style: Injinji socks come in a variety of colors and styles, so choose a pair that suits your personal style and preferences.

My top choices of Injinji socks:

Outdoor Midweight Crew Wool, these are the socks I use on constant basis while going on short hikes or long hikes. They are made from 75% wool, which gives them a great moisture wicking ability, you can go from a completely drenched sock to a dry sock in about 2 hours of intense walking.
They have a very snug fit, they go a little bit higher on the calfs than normal socks and are very resilient. Paired with a thin liner sock, you will have a comfortable fit for your feet in any shoe.

Run lightweight Mini-Crew, these are my constant wear, I use them on a daily basis for work or just around the house, they feel extremely light on your feet, snug fit and extremely comfortable. They are less resilient than other Injinji, but over the course of 3 years, I have not broken one pair.
That’s true evidence of amazing quality.

Ultra Run Crew, when going for a jog, trail-running or biking I enjoy these socks extremely, they are similar to the midweight crew but have a very pronounced extra reinforced section under your foot, in activities where you have high mobility, friction, and intense sweating.
These socks outperform all others that I have tested on the market, they are extremely resilient and can be used for hiking as well.

Ultra Compression, after long hikes I often feel bloated in my feet, I have experienced after using these socks the bloated sensation dies off extremely quickly, they are also extremely useful on long flights where your feet fall asleep and feel numb..
They have the same snug fit as the rest of the Injinji socks but as they go up to your knees in most cases, it’s a hit or miss for a lot of people.

Where to buy Injinji socks:

These are my favourite websites that most commonly offer great discounts on these socks, the usual price is also among the lowest in the market.

Falketind warmwool 2 stretch jacket

This sweater is fast becoming a favorite mid-layer of mine. It’s warm as heck, making it perfect for those rainy and snowy days.
It’s incredibly flexible and stretch, I have to say, that helps you incredibly much during scrambling sessions in autumn and full-on ice climbing during winter.
I’m a very warm-blooded person, this layer and a shell jacket, keeps me warm up until about -15 celsius before I need an additional layer.

Let’s jump into the benefits of this sweater and why it’s likely going on my top 10 equipment list.

Warmth, It’s incredibly warm for it’s weight. It weighs about 500 grams but keeps you warm and dry.

The wool mix is incredibly good at transporting sweat from your skin away from your body. It breathes quite a bit and you feel it while wearing the sweater.

It’s incredibly durable for being a soft sweater, I have slipped several times in gravel on mountains without making a single scratch in it.

A small sidenote, it’s incredibly nice seeing that Norrøna sticked with the holes for your thumbs near the wrist cuffs, making this sweater an incredibly tight fit.

Now off to the cons, for this one, I actually only have one!

It’s extremely good at circulating air, which means pulling air through the material, then dragging the sweat out.
So without a shell jacket and a mild breast, you start feeling the windchill quite quickly.

Bitihorn trail running Shorts

These shorts are by far the best product from Norrøna that has come on the market. Sadly for you and for me, they are currently off the market as Norrøna is working on a new variant for their Lyngen collection.

@Norrøna can I get these? - Your’s truly Alex.

Let’s dig into why these 100-gram, 1-hour dry trail running shorts are the best thing that ever happened to me.

I will go off the bat and list what I love about these shorts.

Made from over 50% recycled synthetic materials, makes them a great choice for anyone that likes a good environmental choice.

They are light, I would say as light as your T-shirt. Weighing in at about 99.7 grams. Making them a joy to run in and they feel like a delight to wear.

They dry quickly, making them incredibly nice for hiking, running, and climbing in summer. I use these to swap whenever my hiking pants get too sweaty during hikes.

They have a small glued pocket on your left leg with enough space for a wallet and perhaps a condom, depending on your size.

They are coated with a water repellant (DWR) making them a great choice for rainy days and even swimming!

Here comes those cons to last,

Durability of the fabric is my main concern with these shorts. The overall design is great but the textile is quite fragile making it prone to fray.

The glued pocket is irreparable, if the zipper breaks, unhooks, or anything, it’s actually impossible to fix it.
This is kind of my biggest gripe with these shorts, they are made in a way to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Yet they are irreparable, which negates the idea of being an eco-friendly alternative because if they break… They are broken.

Norrøna Falketind Gore-Tex

I can simply start this review by saying, I’m highly biased. This has been my favorite companion for the last 5 years. The Falketind jacket I wear is a jacket I bought second hand in 2017, then it was already approximately 2 years old!

The jacket is extremely light, weighing in at a shocking 410 grams. It’s made from GORE-TEX® C-KNIT™.

The fabric is a lot my agile than other jackets, which makes it perfect to roll up or compress into your bag.
It’s waterproof to about 28.000mm with extremely high breathability, so you don’t feel clammy after wearing the jacket for a whole day in the rain.

I would say the greatest strength of this jacket is also the greatest weakness, it’s light, and it’s less durable than other jackets you will have in your closet.

The cons of this jacket is as many as the pro’s! So let’s dig into it!

My biggest gripe with this jacket is the internal chest pocket, It’s so small that not even my dignity can fit in it.
The hood adjustments are on the back of the hood, making it a bit difficult to adjust when wearing a big backpack.
The jacket is shorter than for example Trollveggen, so if you carry a backpack in excess of 50L in rainy conditions. EXPECT A WET BUTT!

As a final note, my overall impression of this jacket is great, on a scale of 1-10, I believe this jacket is a solid 9. It’s just a few minor things that I personally dislike about this jacket.

Fjørå equaliser lightweight T-Shirt

Foto by Norrøna

I have to say, I used to scoff at the idea of spending more than 30 euros for a T-shirt, so the real question becomes, is this 78 euro t-shirt really worth it?

So let’s start going through what I enjoy of this T-shirt.

It’s among the lightest T-shirts I have ever owned, weighing in at around 100 grams!
That’s practically the same weight as a cup of noodles, #FavouriteMeal.

It’s eco-friendly, made from +50% recycled synthetic fibers along with their trademarked equaliser material. * They haven’t shared this recipe with me!

The main feature that I love about this T-shirt is its breathability, which makes it ideal for activities where you would break a sweat, be it climbing, running, skiing, or mountain biking.

When you are out hiking, you stop for your lunch on a sunny day, you wash your Fjørå T-shirt in a stream, hang it on your backpack and you grab a new one from your pack. Within 2 hours the first T-shirt is already dry and ready for use.

Foto by Norrøna

What are the cons?

Cost, running at around 70+ euros without discounts makes it a quite pricey affair for a T-shirt.

Base layer, during colder days of the year when you usually wear a base layer. This T-shirt acts as a semi-base layer itself, but it also hugs the body.
Making it difficult to find base layer’s that fit with the T-shirt.

Color selection, at any given time there are around 9 different colors over on the Fjørå equaliser and Falketind equaliser.
Yet there is no full black or full white of the T-shirt or any single color options.
It’s a small gripe and truly a first-world problem that I might be able to survive.

Black Diamond Crag Gloves

Gloves are extremely important when out in the mountains. It’s important to find the right gloves that fit your needs. I have gone with using Crag Gloves from Black Diamond as my favorite set of gloves during mountaineering, Via-Ferrata, and climbing for the past 5 years.

I mostly use two different sets of crag gloves for my adventures, the set I use the most is the Black Diamond crag Half-finger gloves.

The other set is the “normal” Black Diamond Crag gloves.
So let’s dig into why Alexander actually likes these gloves and why you should buy them!

Starting off, these gloves provide excellent protection for palms and fingers. Making it an easy thrill to climb up ravines, ridges and handling ice axes on glaciers without losing your grip.

The palm and the area between the index finger and thumb are extra reinforced, so when you are handling rope while belaying you won’t suffer any rope burns.

That also helps you during Via Ferrata as most of the time, that’s how you are gripping the steel wire or clamping off the carabiner.

They fit to your hands extremely well with the velcro strap holding them secure through the day with no issues at all.

My favorite feature is actually the little hole you see on the picture of the Half-Finger gloves. Perfect for clipping your gloves on a carabiner when you are not using them or you want them to dry.

Let’s talk about the cons, well in this case I would simply say con as I only dislike one thing about these gloves!

You need two sets of these gloves if you climb in the Scandinavian mountain ranges, we have a lot of streams, snow, and general wet conditions.
These gloves take forever to dry so that they are comfortable to use again, I REPEAT… FOREVER!

Revolution Race GP Pro Rescue Pants

This is a brand I have been using for so long that it’s kind of become a meme among my friends. But I have to say, I really love their pants, especially their GP Pro series.
It combines the durability of mountaineering pants and the flexibility of climbing pants for an interesting blend.

The pants are made from a polyester and cotton blend, just as a reminder, it’s not waterproof. You need to spray on a water repellant to make them more resilient to rain. In comparison to the Fjällräven G-1000 which uses a wax system to make them waterproofed.

So why does Alexander love these pants?
I can simply say because of versatility, whichever situation I get myself into, these pants seem to work incredibly well, they are stretchy enough to do proper climbing. They are durable enough for scrambling, alpine climbing, and glacial trips.
They are the pants that will never lay in your closet catching dust as they are suitable for most adventures, for me, they usually leave the drying rack to be used for the next adventure.

The cons and what I dislike about these pants!
There is no way to properly waterproof them, even with the water repellant spray you only get about 1 hour of effective protection before you are wet.
It’s very difficult getting the fabric needed to repair these pants, so if they break, you usually need to patch them with similar material found online.
I highly recommend these patches, Tear-aid is amazing at repairing literally anything possible.
Even Revolution Race pants!

Norrøna Trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro Light Jacket

Trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro Light Jacket hit the spot on several user areas, it’s agile enough to do some serious climbing, and it’s perfect for scrambling and going up places with sharp rocks. Excellent protection when traversing glaciers. The material is extremely weather resistant and you can spend 8 hours in the rain without getting wet.

The extended back makes it extremely easy to carry an 80-liter backpack without getting the usual wet butt you get from most jackets.

The extended arms make this jacket extremely photographer friendly as it protects your fingers from the cold winds in the mountains.

The hood is extremely big which allows you to comfortably adjust it to fit your head, regardless if you’re wearing a cap or even a helmet!
Which has saved my ears many times while traversing windy sections of glaciers and ridges.

The chest pockets
on this jacket are amazing! You can comfortably fit a hat, gloves, and buff in one of the chest pockets.

Now to the cons!
Here I can say there are plenty of drawbacks with this jacket, even though it’s agile and you can feel It’s durable. It also feels a bit stiff while extending your arms as the arms are a little bit longer, which in turn always makes me close the velcro on the arms as tightly as possible, in a way to mitigate the long arms.
The adjustments for the hood are on the backside, so when you are carrying a big backpack, it makes it quite difficult to adjust it properly to your liking.

As a final note, my overall impression of this jacket is quite good, on a scale of 1-10, I believe this jacket is a solid 8. It’s just a few minor things that I personally dislike about this jacket.
