A very special note before our summary,

We would love to thank the staff at Oberhauser Hütte for hosting us for an amazing weekend. A big thanks to Valentina whom expertly advices customers in several languages and seem to swap in-between different languages seamlessly.
We would also love to thank the chef David for creating some stunning dishes presented in the pictures of this post.

Summary

At the Oberhauser Hütte the prices vary from 120 euros per night to 150 euros per night for a standard room with half-board. But I have to be honest in saying, the standard is set at exceptional.
The menu is thoughtfully designed by David, featuring locally-sourced seasonal ingredients and traditional Tyrolean cuisine with a modern touch.

Breakfast

For those seeking a more luxurious experience, the Oberhauser Hütte offers three spacious suites that come with an upgraded price tag of 210 euros per night. These suites feature unique and stunning mountain views and additional amenities, including hot tubs and an infrared sauna, depending on the selection of room and suite.

These small hidden gems in the Dolomites are hard to come by, I feel like Oberhauser Hütte is hitting all the spots and will be a quality destination for travelers in the years to come.
The food is great, the wine pairing is great, the staff is wonderful, and the location and access to parking are wonderful.

Rifugio Pietro Galassi

Rifugio Pietro Galassi

Rifugio Pietro Galassi is a rustic brick cabin resting in the shade of giants. That is the best way, I can both introduce the place and the surroundings of this Rifugio.

I visited this Rifugio during a week in early July, I was warmly greeted by the volunteer staff and Skye received lots of love… Even though she must surely be a wolf! According to the locals, “Una Piccolina Lupina”.

Prices 2022 // 10 euro sanitation fee for dogs

Basic information about Rifugio Pietro Galassi. The cabin is open from the beginning of June until late September. It hosts up to 100 people in separate dormitories and dogs are welcome. I highly recommend going with the half-board and a bottle of wine.. maybe even for breakfast.
There are plenty of springs in the mountains, but the water near the cabin is not potable. You can buy water at the cabin for a reasonable price or boil water from the streams.

Winter shelter to the left, Rifugio Pietro Galassi to the right.

How do I get there? You have to hike!
I will describe my route as I have personally experienced it. I took the car and drove to Calalzo di Cadore, there I turned off the main road.
Onto a gravel road, I went through an amazing valley with several spots for barbequing and tenting.
I reached a parking spot named Praciadelan, it fits about 60 vehicles and works as the trailhead. There is a restaurant at the parking named Ristorante Alla Pineta, there you can eat hot food and find refreshing drinks.
At Praciadelan you start hiking a desolated and sparsely marked dirt road marked 255 for about 7km until you arrive at Capanna degli Alpini, a marvelous mountain hut located near a waterfall/ravine Via Ferrata. From there you keep on the trail marked 255 for about 2 hours, the first part of the path goes through a magical forest for about 45 minutes, in this section you also climb several hundred meters of altitude.
You get to a dried-up river bed and craggy landscape, the trail starts leaning to the left and you will start seeing a mountain cabin in front of you, that’s Rifugio Pietro Galassi.
If you are lucky, you will also see the gondola they use to move supplies up and down the mountain.

After crossing the riverbed you are starting your final piece of ascent to Rifugio Pietro Galassi, you will start seeing the mountain cabin and the newly built winter shelter.
You will also start seeing more animals, including mountain ibex, if you see one with white spots all over his head, I named him Clyde, say hello to Clyde from me!

Skye and Clyde

In short - If you are going to the dolomites with your friends and family. This is the perfect place to start, the hike up is moderate and takes approximately 4.5 - 5 hours in total. At the rifugio, you have several options of easy or hard routes.
This is a rock haven for those in love with climbing, as you could base from Rifugio Pietro Galassi for several weeks yet climb new routes every single day.
